Review of The Matrix

THE MATRIX REVIEW

The epic 1999 Matrix has been loved by fans for just over 20 years now, and for good reason. Winning four Oscars and a Bafta after it was enjoyed by fans everywhere.
Taking place on a deceitful version of planet earth Mr.Anderson (hacker code name Neo) idly strides through the daily motions of a monotonous life until one day he is contacted by a group of freelance hackers. After this group of hackers reveal to him his own real importance his life changes drastically, being chased by a murderous group of agents Neo has no choice but to join up with the other hackers. The story's tension then heightens to an insane level after Neo learns that the world he lives in is a simulation created by sentient robots after the real Earth was overrun and destroyed.
Much of the movie itself is focused on Neo's escape by the self-named 'Agents'(programs added to the matrix in order to keep the human race believing the lie they are trapped in)however when Neos leader Morpheus is captured by the Agents running can no longer work.

At this point, the action ramps up dramatically as the directors beautifully craft huge action sequences with great camera work and music. The action later gets even better when the team realizes that they can manipulate the physics inside the matrix, allowing for epic slow-motion shots and wall running. The film reaches its climax however when Neo learns that he is the fabled messiah the team have been looking for, he is the leader of the revolution. Along with Neo's new status, he realizes the extreme power he can now harness being able to manipulate the matrix like no one else, leading to insane speed and strength.

The films ends here, having set up an intriguing storyline for the audience which carries onto a sequel. The Matrix was very successful for good reason, the Wachowski sisters' camera work, music, and writing add up to a very vibrant picture. Not to mention the fascinating concept which carries on out of the movie, leading them to question whether or not they're already in a Matrix of their own.

7.5/10
