Released on the 4th October Joker released to mostly unconditional applause, Joaquin Phoenix's strangely captivating performance is arguably the greatest element of this film. The story takes place from the warped perspective of Arthur Fleck, a depressive middle aged man, struggling in Gotham's version of the Bronx while being forced to take care of his also mentally unstable mother. After being fired from his terrible job however Arthur begins to become the Joker, spiraling down into gross violence and delusion. Compared to the trailer the film is surprisingly adult, as certain scenes would easily shock the faint hearted. However the film is arguably a masterpiece in the eyes of many and clearly worth an Oscar. Phoenix's acing is on point throughout, the music and shot design is interesting and tense. Every element of this film was on point, including the great script.

While some people found the first half of the film mundane(an element clearly included on purpose) the second half ramps up with the action, as Joker gives into his rage at a society with no care for him. One of the greatest parts of this film is clearly the intensity, as the realism of the movie is what makes it so tense for the audience, something not done often enough in the horror drama.

The film is gritty captivating, and slightly too true to life for comfort 10/10.
